So you’ve finally taken the plunge, and have personally invested in your own health-boosting sanctuary space, but are now unsure of how best to take care of it to reap its rewards safely and healthily…well, you’re in the right place! Like any other key additional household investment, it’s important to know exactly how to keep your infrared sauna clean and maintained so that’s why we’ve gathered some helpful hints for you to try at home and they are as easy as 1,2,3,

The Tools

Luckily your infrared sauna has been made to last you a lifetime and all the materials that make up your Clearlight Infrared® Sauna are completely non-toxic with Eco-Certified solid wood frames that don’t emit toxic fumes when heated and due to this no fancy tools or expensive products are necessary to clean your sauna, here are the 5 essentials you’ll need

1. A cloth;

2. Warm water;

3. Natural soap or a homemade mixture of natural sauna solution;

4. White Vinegar and;

5. A Vacuum (a small handheld one is easy to carry around and works a dream)

Interior

Step 1: Place towels on the bench and underneath your feet to absorb any sweat that may drip onto the wood of your sauna. After each use, it’s as easy as wiping down the interior with a damp cloth – always wipe down the bench you are seated on

Step 2: For a deeper cleanse, usually around twice a month depending on usage, you can use a sauna solution (a few drops of high-quality essential oils like Lemon, Lavender, or *Arborvitae  + filtered water) and wipe down the interior for a quick refresh.

Step 3: To rinse and lightly scrub the wood – a solution of  1 x tablespoon of baking soda in a gallon of water will be sufficient. Don’t spray cleaner or water onto the panels. Leave your sauna running after cleaning or a session for a few minutes to dry any remaining moisture

Taking care of the interior of your sauna-like this all helps avoid mineral build-up to reduce future maintenance.

Exterior

Step 1: Simply treat exterior walls as you would any investment buy made out of wood by using a polish to maintain shine.

Step 2: Opt for a no VOC polish or varnish, such as a natural linseed oil varnish that can be used on the floors, slats over heaters, and on any parts needed and reapply as necessary

Step 3: Outdoor infrared saunas require a bit more maintenance to keep the outside looking good. When needed a periodic pressure washing will keep it looking as good as new

*Arborvitae is an essential oil made from Western Red Canadian Cedar which has been known to significantly hinder inflammation although any essential oils dropped onto a ceramic stone are allowed to be placed into your sauna or added to some water as a great cleaning method
